ABOUT THE GROUP

Everything you need to know about the Group and who looks after the Scheme.

ABOUT THE GROUP

The National Grid Electricity Group of the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme (the NGE Group of the ESPS) is a registered pension scheme under Chapter 2 of part 4 of the Finance Act 2004. It is currently a qualifying pension scheme for the purposes of automatic enrolment legislation under the Pensions Act 2008.

The NGE Group is a defined benefit pension scheme. The sponsoring employer of the Scheme is National Grid Electricity Transmission plc, a subsidiary of National Grid plc. For more information about the NGE Group, including the latest Group Annual Report & Financial Statements, please click here.

Following the privatisation of the Electricity Supply Industry, the ESPS was restructured in 1990, as an industry-wide scheme for non-associated employers. The restructure involved dividing the Scheme into a number of Groups, one of which is the NGE Group. The assets of the Scheme were divided between and transferred to these Groups, which are actuarially independent of each other. For more information about the ESPS, please click here.

The NGE Group is overseen by the Group Trustee Board. The Group Trustee believes in providing a positive experience for members and for everyone dealing with the Group. For more information about the current Board, please click here.

The Group was closed to new joiners in 2006, although a small number of former Gas Scheme members were transferred to the Group during 2022, as a result of reorganisation within the Company.

Former Gas Scheme members
Former Gas Scheme members are a special category of members who pay different contributions and receive certain different benefits from the rest of the NGE Group. If this applies to you, some of the general information available from this website is applicable to you while information about your core benefits is likely to be different. Please look out for notices on this website where information is specific to you or not relevant. Please click here to access information specifically for former Gas Scheme members.
